ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of practice theories and the Turn to Practice, discussing the main criticisms and perceived weaknesses. It then situates practice theories in relation to other more-than-human theories discussed so far, including those from The Affective Turn and The New Materialisms Turn. In doing so, the chapter argues the case for viewing practice theories as more-than-human. With their focus on routine and regular performance, the chapter closes by situating practice theories as a useful ‘lead’ theory for beginning to rethink how to intervene in cities to make them more-than-human habitat.
