ABSTRACT

Descartes and other philosophical dualists erred by disembodying human consciousness, thus allowing later utopians to portray modernity in ways that sacrifice the working/exercising body in return for economic gains. Many body workers are advised by their personal trainers to keep a journal or log. The beauty of vigorous walking is that its footstrike is much less stressful than the running footstrike because the runner is defying gravity by lifting the body off the ground. Body problems are social problems because the body has been colonized by large corporations who variously harm and heal the body. The problem with exercise as a panacea for everything, all the way from high blood pressure to depression, is that exercise typically occupies a small compartment in people’s busy lives. Exercise is more than the expenditure of energy. Many use running and other forms of exercise to escape a hum-drum everyday life.
