This table lists the 200 most significant productions on German-language stages for this period, together with information on the historical and cultural background. After a summary of major events for each year the following information is given:
Author and title of work performed. An asterisk indicates a private performance, usually to avoid censorship. An exact date indicates that the production was a premiere or at least the first public performance in Germany. A date in brackets after the title is the date of composition, where this is significantly earlier than the date of the first performance. Long titles have been abbreviated. Titles of all non-German pieces are rendered into English.
