ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reviews two additional conceptual considerations about grotesque transparency. It acts to the more concrete aspects of the politics of affects. The book considers the tensions between the sacred and the profane in grotesque transparency, by looking at propaganda from Islamic State militants and other radical organizations. It looks at the deformative transparent strategy from the point of view of public health campaigns. The book discusses the main notions analysed in the case studies and enunciates an ethics of the invisible. It propose that the analysis of the disclosure strategy can help us understand broader social, political, and cultural processes from the point of view of an aesthetic reflexivity and the economy of the affects. The book envisions the next stage of the research program focused on the exploration of kitsch in public communication and the strategic use of emotions.
