ABSTRACT

As the twentieth century wore on, thinkers such as Michael Polanyi and Thomas Kuhn took a different view, maintaining that science was not as objective as some would like to think. In 1633 Galileo Galilei was condemned by the Inquisition in Rome and ultimately sentenced to spend the rest of his life under house arrest. The authors argued that scientists’ passionate commitment to their work and the influence of peer pressure and the contemporary paradigm through which their discipline was understood had a significant influence on their work. In the example that follows they use a combination of dialogue and drama to allow children to become actors in a great and very human adventure in the history of science.
