ABSTRACT

For today's children the Internet is an essential part of life, as natural as breathing. Social networks allow users to interact with their friends on an individual level and in a public manner. Many young people spend a lot of time on Facebook and so it is not surprising that what they encounter there determines much of their self-image and self-esteem. A US study found that as many as 93 percent of boys 97 and 62 percent of girls had been exposed to online pornography during adolescence. Many violent games exist online, promoting values we would not wish our children to ascribe to. Cyberbullying has been defined as perverse and inappropriate use of electronic means, such as the Internet, to repeatedly assault a person, who is usually defenseless, in order to harm them and cause damage to their reputation. According to Bowlby's theory of attachment, a positive connection between parent and child is necessary for healthy development of the latter.
