ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discusses a positive form of empowerment - using the Internet for prosocial activity that can really change the world! Prosocial behavior is defined as a voluntary act toward another without the expectation of an immediate reward. People wonder whether they have anything to offer as a volunteer if they have only limited time available. The best response to these musings is that the flexibility granted by the Internet allows everyone to volunteer for a project of their choice, in whatever capacity best suits them. Online volunteering is a great place to meet similar others - people who care about society and have chosen a similar means of doing good. The authors believe that the Internet allows more people than ever before to achieve their self-actualization. In the chapter, the readers have looked at many different ways in which Internet allows us to have a positive impact on the world, and on ourselves.
