ABSTRACT

Policy issues are often categorized as domestic or foreign, but with the concern over global warming and climate change the issue range has expanded to the entire planet. This chapter defines global warming and the range of its impacts on environmental and climate conditions. It presents the contentious debates over the sources of global warming and the effect that public policies may have on the national economy and consumer choices. The chapter discusses the short- and long-term potential of global warming to change the planet and the way humans live on it. The agreement between the United States and China created the momentum for the Paris Summit. In December 2015, 195 nations reached an historic accord to combat global warming. The agreement committed the signatories to lowering greenhouse gas emissions to limit the impact of climate change.
