ABSTRACT

One type of supplemental documentation found to be significantly effective in improving educator data use is the reference sheet, often called an abstract. A reference sheet is a single, one-sided page accompanying a report to help the user more easily understand the report and analyze its data. The 2.1 Standards represent a synthesis of literature pertaining to designing reference sheets to accompany education data reports. While the reference sheet is more comprehensive than the footer, some data report users require more support than the reference sheet's single page contains. Thus another type of supplemental documentation found to be significantly effective in improving educator data use is the reference guide, sometimes called an interpretation guide. A reference guide of two or more pages accompanies a report in order to help the educator more easily read the report and analyze its data. The 2.2 Standards represent a synthesis of literature pertaining to designing reference guides to accompany education data reports.
