ABSTRACT

When added to education data reports, key features can facilitate easy and accurate understanding, analysis, and use of data. The 4.2 Standards represent a synthesis of literature pertaining to designing key features within data reports. Standard 4.2.01 includes the summaries/averages that will best provide context for the types of comparisons users will want to make when they use the report. A data display, whether tabular or graphic, should clearly establish how values relate to one another. Standard 4.2.02 provides calculations that prevent users from having to perform mental arithmetic when analyzing data. Data system-generated and -displayed calculations constitute a valuable component to data reporting. Standard 4.2.03 displays all data required for a report to function most effectively. Standard 4.2.04 includes graph(s) when appropriate while adhering to graph guidelines. Standard 4.2.05 uses headers. Table headers provide added information and clarity while also organizing and characterizing data.
