ABSTRACT

Navigation refers to the manner and ease with which users are able to use and move through the data system. The 4.4 Standards represent a synthesis of literature pertaining to effective navigation design. Educators want data systems that offer easy, fast access to desired data. The data system should allow for reports to be tagged with multiple terms and for users to select multiple filters when searching for reports. This allows users to select all filters that apply and further narrow the report list as desired. Data systems overwhelm users when they offer too many separate data reports, many of which are very similar and with only slight variations in appearance or content. Similar data reports should be consolidated into single reports, which can then be customized by users' input control selections. Report consistency contributes to easier, faster use.
