A place for psychology in development? book
So far in this book I have outlined the contested nature of psychological knowledge in development interventions, stressing how large parts of the psychological canon are founded in studies firmly rooted within Western liberalism, obscuring alternative views of the relationship between the self and the world. I have also explored how ideas of power are largely absent in psychological expertise – especially those lacking any examination of the link between psychological expertise, hegemony and ideology. Given the relations of power inherent in the development project, we must ask if there is, then, any place at all for the psychological domain in development interventions.
