ABSTRACT
Teaching may be a multi-faceted profession but there are some basic beliefs that
have proved fundamental to my teaching practice. I believe that to be an effective
teacher of writing, I have three things to consider:
• something about the young people in front of me;
• something about the art of teaching;
• something about writing itself.
