ABSTRACT

The song and Elvis didn’t fit. But Phillips rounded up two members of a hillbilly band he’d recorded before and started them rehearsing with Elvis to see if anything should come of it. They were guitarist Scotty Moore and double-bass player Bill Black. At first they weren’t too keen but after a lot of work in

the studio, and a good deal of urging from Phillips to ‘Keep it simple, keep it simple’, they decided to put something down on tape.
