ABSTRACT

This chapter provides resources to support teacher's journey in early childhood anti-bias/anti-oppression education. It describes the children's books in several identity categories: racial identity, skin color, movements for social change, gender expression and identity, family diversity, culture, socio-economic status and able-ness. Rethinking Schools is a nonprofit publisher and advocacy organization dedicated to sustaining and strengthening public education through social justice teaching and education activism. Teaching for Change (TFC) encourages teachers and students to question and rethink the world inside and outside their classrooms. Many of the resources developed by Teaching Tolerance are geared for the later grades. Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has articulated the link between bias and bullying, and provides many ideas and resources to address both. The chapter focuses on resources about local and regional early childhood groups or organizations that provide teachers with models for how to organize for change in their local communities.
