Materials and methods

For the edition of the Nāmamantrārthāvalokinī (NMAA) I had access to the following ten Nepalese manuscripts: ¹

Manuscript belonging to the University of Cambridge ( Bendall 1883: Add. 1708). Palm-leaf, Nevārī script, 115 folios (26 missing), dated Samvat 57 (plus a third unclear number) (c. 1450 CE).

Manuscript belonging to P. R. Vajrācārya, Kathmandu (Nepal-German Manuscript Preservation Project [hereafter NGMPP] reel no. E 360/16). Paper, Nevārī script (first 13 folios in Devanāgarī = B₁), 86 folios, undated.

Manuscript belonging to P. R. Vajrācārya, Kathmandu (NGMPP reel no. E 419/17). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 80 folios, dated Samvat 920 (1800 CE).

Manuscript belonging to Dharmavajrācārya, Kathmandu (NGMPP reel no. E 1369/3). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 194 folios, undated.

Manuscript belonging to P. B. Kamsakara, Kathmandu (NGMPP reel no. E 1057/13). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 72 folios, dated Samvat 1021 (1901 CE).

Manuscript belonging to the National Archives, Kathmandu (NAK ms. no. 5-6863; NGMPP reel no. A 133/12). Paper, Nevārī script, 135 folios (1 missing), undated.

Manuscript belonging to the University of Kyoto ( Goshima and Noguchi 1983: 58). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 123 folios, undated.

Manuscript belonging to the National Archives, Kathmandu (NAK ms. no. 5-138; NGMPP reel no. B 108/24). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 77 folios, undated.

Manuscript belonging to Dharma Ratna Vajrācārya, Kathmandu (NGMPP reel no. E 1920/2). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 121 folios (4 missing, including the final folio).

Manuscript belonging to the National Archives, Kathmandu (NAK ms. no. 3-570; NGMPP reel no. B 109/13). Paper, Devanāgarī script, 102 folios, dated Samvat 1954 (1897 CE?).
