ABSTRACT

Then Vajradhara, the glorious, best tamer of those hard to tame, a hero [since he is] the conqueror of the three worlds, king of secrets, lord of the thunderbolt,

vibuddhapuṇḍarīkākṣaḥ protphullakamalānanaḥ | prollālayan vajravaraṃ svakareṇa muhur muhuḥ || (2)

With eyes like an expanded white lotus flower, with a face like a fully opened blossom of the pale-red lotus, throwing the best of vajras upwards with his hand again and again,

bhṛkuṭītaraṃgapramukhair anantair vajrapāṇibhiḥ | durdāntadamakair vīrair vīrabībhatsarūpibhiḥ || (3)

Accompanied by numberless Vajrapāṇis – possessing undulating [angry] frowns and other [such features], tamers of the hard-to-tame [and so] heroes, [in] heroic [mood], possessing hideous forms,

ullālayadbhiḥ svakaraiḥ prasphuradvajrakoṭibhiḥ | prajñopāyamahākaruṇājagadarthakaraiḥ paraiḥ || (4)

Throwing [their vajras] upwards with their hands, with the tips of their vajras flashing, agents for the purpose of the worlds through their wisdom, skill-in-means and great compassion, [and hence] supreme,

hṛṣṭatuṣṭāśayair muditaiḥ krodhavigraharūpibhiḥ | buddhakṛtyakarair nāthaiḥ sārdhaṃ praṇatavigrahaiḥ || (5)

Having excited and pleased dispositions, joyful, possessing the bodily appearance of wrathful deities, accomplishing the business of the Buddhas, protectors, with their bodies bowed [in respect] –

praṇamya nāthaṃ saṃbuddhaṃ bhagavantaṃ tathāgatam | kṛtāñjalipuṭo bhūtvā idam āha sthito ’grataḥ || (6)

Bowed to the protector, the perfectly awakened one, the fortunate one, the Tathāgata, and, joining his palms [in respectful salutation], spoke as follows [to Śākyamuni], standing before [him]:

maddhitāya mamārthāya anukampāya me vibho | māyājālābhisaṃbodher yathā lābhī bhavāmy aham || (7)

“For my benefit, for my sake, out of favour to me, O lord, so that that I may obtain [the method called] ‘The Awakening According to the Māyājāla’

kleśavyākulacetasām | hitāya sarvasattvānām anuttaraphalāptaye || (8)

of ignorance, with minds agitated by the defilements, [and] for the sake of obtaining the highest fruit,

prakāśayatu saṃbuddho bhagavān śāstā jagadguruḥ | mahāsamayatattvajña indriyāśayavit paraḥ || (9)

May the fortunate one, the perfectly awakened one, the teacher, the guru of the worlds, he who knows the essence of the great pledge[- being], he who understands the disposition of [individuals’] capacities [for selftransformation], [and] who is supreme, teach.
