ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the theoretical framework underpinning this study. It introduces key organisation principles in systemic functional linguistics (SFL) that are the theoretical foundation for both the qualitative discourse analysis of texts and the 4 × 4 metalanguage framework introduced in Chapter 1.
