ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides an intimate view into classroom and community spaces, where possibilities for peace have been cultivated and collective dialogues have disrupted multiple forms of symbolic violence. In sharp contrast to the oversimplified common classroom space that is in many ways shut off from the world, alternatives have been showcased. The work of these teacher activists is in every way a small victory over dominant forms that curtail creativity and radical work in the everyday classroom setting. The narratives presented in the book reify the marginal nature of critical peace pedagogy. Such unofficial lessons were to become central to teacher training curriculum. As learning and curriculum have become increasingly quantified and product based, the openings for peace praxis seem more difficult to create and maintaining the authentic nature of critical peace praxis is vital.
