Working the red carpet is like being an elite sportsman in that success can come down to a few seconds. Red carpet events are where anyone desperate for fame spies an opportunity to get some airtime, primarily because there tends to be a lot of photographers present. There'll be rumours that one person isn't showing up or that someone else will be coming in the side entrance rather than on the red carpet itself. Lots of people have asked the author about what to wear for a junket. At the risk of sounding like a wedding speech, the Merriam-Webster dictionary describes a junket as "a promotional trip made at another's expense". When people talk of movie junkets, they speak of lavishly funded five-star trips to the Bahamas to speak to the teenage star of a new comedy, or a weekend in Barcelona in order to extract a few words from a recent Oscar winner.
