ABSTRACT
The pre-mediation paperwork was not as onerous as usual: a single folder of printed emails and statements. I preferred not to read much about the cases (it made it easier to bracket what prejudices I might already have), but it was necessary to reply with all honesty to the inevitable query: ‘Have you read the papers?’
