ABSTRACT

Most large organizations today use 360-degree feedback, although they may use it for different purposes: only for development, as part of an employee’s performance evaluation leading to its use for making administrative decisions, or a combination of the two. The chapter discusses 360-degree feedback in depth, providing considerations for implementing an overall 360-degree survey process in organizations. The authors address how the process is developed, its overall value to stakeholders, typical reactions to its introduction, considerations for use of the feedback when making administrative decisions, how the feedback report can be delivered, the various questions managers may have about the process, ways to help managers interpret their results, and the effectiveness of 360-degree feedback. A sample 360-degree feedback survey is provided and a related sample report is presented and analyzed.
