ABSTRACT

This chapter explores individual creativity, group creativity in the organisational setting, and identifies the factors that affect organisational creativity. It concentrates on the micro-level perspective on creativity, and draws extensively from Amabile's work, which has been extremely influential in creativity research. Understanding group creativity is essential in design management because designers seldom work solely on their own. Designers tend to work in teams consisting of other designers or other professionals such as marketers, researchers, and/or engineers. It is undoubted that both individual and organisational creativity are very important to organisational life. One of the most prominent variables in the organisational setting which can promote, facilitate, or hinder creativity is the leadership style and vision adopted by senior management. The link between leadership behaviour and organisational creativity has been explored by many scholars over the years.
