ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the design of our research on generation gaps. The survey design is based on the established research hypotheses, sampling plan, and research purposes. We designed a concrete research plan including training the interviewers, studying the plan, and implementing the plan. The questionnaire contains 25 groups of questions, with a total of 96 questions. The modernity index is specially designed based on the three principles of autonomy, rationalization, and creativity. Therefore, the survey plan was used to indicate technical considerations, such as data collection methods, data analysis, personnel arrangement, and research timeline. Two aspects are important in realizing a reasonable reliability in social empirical research. The first is to pay attention to reliability in the measuring process. The other aspect is to care about reliability in the sampling process. In social empirical research, our questionnaires should pass multiple pilot tests to ensure their logicality, validity, and reliability. Our selected sample, or the measurement objects, should be highly representative of the entire population. This means that our analyses of the measurement objects can be used to explain the overall situation. We tried our best in this research to reach the above-mentioned goals.
