ABSTRACT

Movement practices become part of the home practice schedule and are integrated within the teaching process throughout. These are 'meditations in motion'. Mindful movements are generally done slowly, with moment-to-moment awareness of sensations. The teacher gives clear and precise guidance on ways of working with physical boundaries at the beginning and throughout the practice. The chapter considers the following learning that comes from mindful movement: (Re)learning how we can be present with bodily experience in motion, embodying life experiences and processes through movements and postures, discovering new ways to work with intensity, and experiencing working with present-moment acceptance. Mindful movement practice can offer a bridge between practice experience and daily life by creating a felt experience of awareness of movement in the body. This can then be brought to the everyday experience of moving through one's day. Mindful walking is especially useful for feeling the connection between practice and daily life.
