ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the concept of contrast and the words and expressions associated with this. Contrast between different ideas is expressed in English through the use of words such as ‘but’, ‘though’, ‘although’, as in ‘I don’t speak Spanish, but I can get by’, ‘Although the sun’s hot today, there’s a nice breeze’.
