To express this idea, Portuguese uses the verb esperar ‘to hope’ followed by an infinitive:
Espero estudar Direito.
I hope to study law.
O Sérgio espera passar na prova.
Sergio hopes to pass the test.
Esperamos receber o dinheiro amanhã.
We hope to receive the money tomorrow.
