ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the different challenges involved in implementing effective formative feedback practices and some on the conditions that may affect the effectiveness with which feedback is implemented. It looks at the challenges that you may face when implementing the four formative assessments activities involved in feedback episodes: (1) sharing and clarifying learning goals, expectations, and criteria with students, (2) gathering information critical to determining where students are in their learning, (3) analyzing and meaningfully interpreting the information to make it usable for yourself and your students, and (4) acting upon or using the information by directly providing or facilitating the provision of feedback that will support the students’ learning.
