ABSTRACT

This chapter describes both applicants' and interviewers' behaviours during the interview, and how they may impact interview outcomes. It emphasizes potential cultural factors that can impact interview effectiveness around the world. The chapter highlights that applicants should prepare for their interviews by trying to identify what qualities the organization is looking for, consider past experiences where they have used such qualities, and prepare a set of narratives to tell the interviewer. It describes the shed some light on the factors that may impact applicants' interview performance and how to manage them. The chapter describes the ways applicants can deal with interview anxiety, prepare themselves, identify the selection criteria, and manage their expectations to perform at their best. In a research summarizing the results of multiple studies conducted across 17 countries, the interview was consistently ranked the second most preferred selection method in all countries.
