ABSTRACT

The readings of diversity text examples and critical feminist engagements with diversity terminology suggest that in both groups of texts similar stories are being told. The diversity text examples are told from the perspective of scholars who explicitly wish to install diversity terminology into the German canon and Diversity Studies in German academia. The proximity of the concepts, which is described so affirmatively as a reason to focus on commonality between gender and diversity in the diversity-leaning texts, in turn appears as a sign of an inevitable process of decay in which originally critical concepts appear to lose their teeth when integrated with economic and critical concerns. The oppositional set-up that the two different angles on the relationship between concepts of gender and diversity terminologies seem to produce is grounded in a logic of time and difference, which appears to go along with telling a convincing story that makes common sense.
