ABSTRACT

There is nothing particular to distinguish the Buraimi oasis from any other in Oman or the neighbouring countries. Spread over several square kilometres, it covers borders between Oman, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi. The British meanwhile we're trying to press Sultan Said bin Timur of Oman to take firm action in Buraimi before it was too late, but the proud and autocratic Sultan would brook no advice or countenance any outside interference in government of his country. By the end of 1955 rebellion proper had broken out in Oman and once again reinforcements were rushed to Buraimi. When Oman was accepted into the Arab League and later the United Nations in the year 1971, the peak of attainment was reached. Omanis held their heads high for the first time. South Dhofar is 'round the corner' from the rest of Oman and because of this has a totally different climate, being subject to monsoon which also affects western shores of India.
