ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 illustrates the practical experience of the author being a mainstream media journalist and her observations during important political events. This section looks at the emergence of independent news portals (INP), especially Malaysiakini.com’s position in the Malaysian media and political landscape. The chapter also examines how media ownership patterns and Malaysian media coverage have shaped the political landscape over the years.
