During the ‘100 Flowers’ Campaign, criticism of the CCP emerged which then became the basis for attacking individuals who had dared to speak up. Some of the criticisms put forward in minority areas are mentioned in the following selection which dates from the end of the Anti-Rightist Campaign of 1957–8. The names are romanized in the Wade–Giles system, as in the original translation.
