ABSTRACT

This chapter explores various ways critical reflexivity can be fostered and how "artful" questioning can help the researcher reflect on the research process through the journey from start to finish. It offers ways to create critical reflexivity questions for all dimensions of the study. Qualitative researchers accept that reflexivity is an essential component of the process; however, the ways in which reflexivity in the research process is defined and understood are varied. Critical approaches to reflexivity can counter this possibility by turning a critical gaze upon oneself with a view to aligning oneself with the purpose of emancipation, a core component of critical research. By being more aware of reflexivity in language, a critical approach would examine the language and discourse of equity, inclusion, and exclusion so that the rhetoric and the actions are in tune with each other. Critical reflexivity involves various forms of critical reflection.
