ABSTRACT

This chapter portrays student’s art and design experiences. With reasonable modifications for various school sites and grade levels, the described activities in this chapter are productive explorations for all art classrooms. To highlight object-play, this chapter details some "Dollar Store finds", and different ways to incorporate objects in the classroom. In the Dollar Store, there is an aisle devoted to toys, but the lesson of hair curlers is that all aisles are for designing and making toys. Access to a Dollar Store's interesting forms inspires innumerable building ideas and inventions. When Dollar Stores started to proliferate in the 1970s, they offered a variety pack of 24 combs for a dollar. Parade building and organizing is another art of great complexity, dealing with large casts, inventive music, lights, and other elements that go into a successful event. Students in an art class are tickled to get ready for the Big Circus Show.
