ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the types of information that nursing students may need in order to carry out the process of recheck. It describes the differences between ongoing and final evaluation. The chapter discusses the final two stages of the ASPIRE approach to care – rechecking and evaluation. One crucial thing to remember is that the methods and times of rechecking and evaluation are documented clearly in the care plan. Evaluation involves making nursing judgements about the patient's progress in addressing the self-care demand. The purpose of final evaluation is to see whether the patient has achieved the goal on the date identified in the planning stage and whether the experience was right for them as an individual. During evaluation, Orem was interested in identifying the nursing systems that have been used, with the emphasis on ensuring that the least intrusive system has been utilised always.
