ABSTRACT

The Neuman Systems Model was developed in the USA by a nurse academic called Betty Neuman. Neuman wanted to develop an educational framework that would help Betty Neuman nursing students better understand issues surrounding health and care. Neuman describes it as being like an accordion because it can move in and out, varying from day to day. The Neuman Systems Model suggests that all of us are constantly confronted with environmental stressors that can produce disruption to system. Neuman's ideas about levels of wellness are linked to energy levels: a person's point on the continuum relates to the amount of available energy in their system. The Gestalt psychologists were some of the earliest theorists to consider how our brains process information and make sense of it.
