ABSTRACT
You are reading this book, so you no doubt have at least some interest in ancient Egypt. You aren’t alone. People have been fascinated by all things Egyptian for a long time, at least as a cultural undercurrent, with occasional widespread outbursts of public enthusiasm, sometimes referred to as Egyptomania. The wide reach of Egyptian inuence can be found in art, music, literature (including the Bible), lm and any number of other expressions. And apart from mainstream scholarship, the unique and sometimes mysterious characteristics of Egypt have generated a unique form of alternative speculation. In this chapter, we’ll take a look at some of these inuences and ideas.
