ABSTRACT

Adaptive architecture guides occupant growth. It takes them from a state of pain to a state of fulfillment–where they not only meet independent and unrelated needs, but they can also string needs together to help them attain their desired goals and dreams. Adaptive architectural designers need a more profound understanding about how occupants can change and grow–and for this, game design contains key insights. Adaptive architecture inherently has the ability to change in real time. As the architecture responds to the occupant and the occupant responds to the architecture, each emits and senses behaviors that affect one another. Adaptive architecture can be sculpted by the very occupants that experience a given space. An adaptive architecture can help its occupants to carry out the activities needed to achieve their complex goals. Occupant ideal end-goals are made up of other complex goals.
