ABSTRACT

As architecture gains more transient abilities, new approaches need to occur for the design process that goes into the creation of an adaptive architecture. Adaptive architecture brings with it's new opportunities to meet occupant needs in entirely new ways, and this calls for innovative thinking and visionary designing. In order to design and plan for all of this, it is important to know how to use the computational advantage during the design process. Designers must link environmental behaviors with occupant needs and goals, but they must also be responsible for the impact of their architecture as it meets those needs and goals. This calls for a balance between architectural control and architectural expression–where the architect understands how and when to allow the architecture to behave, while allowing the architecture to come up with new behavioral iterations that are innovative and beneficial. Technology is impacting the way architectural designers visualize and make design decisions about their architectural projects.
