ABSTRACT

The relationship between India and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an historic one. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) lists 73 major Indian companies operating in Saudi Arabia, including Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Telecommunications Consultants India, Tata Motors and L&T Saudi Arabia LLC. The main sectors that have attracted Indian FDI in Saudi Arabia are electrical equipment, food processing, automobiles, computer software and hardware and telecommunications. Energy resources forge a perennial bond of alliance between India and Saudi Arabia. ARAMCO and two Indian oil majors, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and ONGC, were also exploring the possibility of investment in Saudi Arabia, India or a third country. During the Indian defence minister's visit, the defence ministers of the two countries agreed to explore practical cooperation in the fight against piracy and an active role of the Royal Saudi Navy in the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium construct.
