ABSTRACT

The computer can also be used to allow students to discover mathematical phenomena in areas such as probability, where for example, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) has a very broad website support called Illuminations, which provides many applications that can be used to motivate a class for a specific topic. However, cautious selection must be exercised, since many of these units are intended to present a topic, while we are only interested in using these units to motivate students towards the topic to be taught in the lesson following this brief activity. With the advent of the ever-advancing technology there are many innovative uses to which this medium can motivate students. However, the computer makes these suggested motivational activities far more effective. In all, what began as a surprising curiosity and motivated the students to learn about the midline of a triangle, can lead to a nice investigation of quadrilateral properties.
