Fullan has stated that the confluence of technology, new pedagogies, and change knowledge are the essential ingredients that have the capability to launch the education transformation that so many people have longed for. The hallmark of new pedagogies is that we engage students and ourselves in learning in ways far beyond meeting basic competencies and skills. Technology is integrated with new pedagogies to augment learning rather than as a tech-based application of old pedagogies. The Khan Academy has created novel assessment tools so that students and teachers can use the Academy's resources to track their progress. Claxton has long been an advocate of education that goes beyond content knowledge acquisition and prepares students to flourish in the real world. The skills that students would learn within the competency of character education include: honesty, self-regulation and responsibility, perseverance, empathy for contributing to the safety and benefit of others, self-confidence, personal health and well-being, career and life skills.
