ABSTRACT

Although gays can now marry in at least some Western states and are no longer subjected to widespread societal discrimination, it is important to remember two things. The first is that such freedoms are relatively recent. The second is that there still are many countries in the world where being gay is virtually a death warrant. In the United States, where the following film takes place, it was less than a decade ago (2003) that the Supreme Court (finally) ruled that state anti-sodomy statutes violated the US Constitution. In addition, while gay marriage is now legal in a few states, in most parts of the country gay marriage remains illegal. The following film helps explain where we have come from and where we need to go in order to protect the human rights of gays and other sexual minorities.
