I have continued to correspond with my interviewees since that time. And so, as the world community reflected on the sixtieth anniversary o f the Nuremberg Trials ' close in October 2006 ,1found that the conscientious efforts o f some Germans to cope with their torturous family histories serve as an inspiring lesson as to how the weight o f the past can be lightened, indeed how the sins o f the fathers need not be revisited upon the sons.
