ABSTRACT

It is now more than a quarter century since the introduction of the treadmill theory. These 28 years have seen some major economic and political changes. We have scientifically traced some of these in our prior work and in this book. Here we attempt to provide an analytic and action framework for scholars and activists, to consider the goals and means of social movements to offer progressive change to the globalizing treadmill. This chapter illustrates these changes with some empirical examples.
