ABSTRACT

A few weeks later, Alfred Leslie called the author. He, composer Edgard Varese, and poet Arnold Weinstein had encouraged him since he first came to New York in 1955 to pursue his dreams of being a composer, combining all the musical styles he felt belonged together. Alfred and Arnold always made him feel anything was possible. They were native-born New Yorkers with soul. They became friends for life. David, he has some exciting news, said Alfred. Jack has written an extraordinary outline for a silent film he would like to have made. Robert was brought up in Switzerland and inspired by the work of the American photographer Walker Evans. He came to America with a vision of his own. There was no one else like him. Robert and his brilliantly talented and beautiful wife, Mary Frank, were always a joy to be with. Both were pure artists, admired and loved by all who knew them.
