ABSTRACT

All of Jack's friends were happy that he had found such an extraordinary woman to be his soul mate. Dody was big-hearted, warm and down to earth, with a Texas smile that could break your heart. One morning in the first week in October, 1959, the author heard his phone ring faintly above the roar of automobile traffic, bus brake wheezes, braying horns of delivery trucks, fire engine and police sirens, the rumbling of the subway, and the shouting of the school kids from PS 41 through his back window. The author was working around the clock, writing his violin sonata. When Jack went on the Steve Allen show on November 16, a group of us got together and watched. Now America had the chance to see and hear what Jack was all about. They all agreed it was the perfect way to end the decade.
