ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a romantic letter written by Karl Marx to Jenny von Westfalen, his wife. Their personal letters overflowed with sweet romance and intense passion. Marx had named four of his daughters Jenny, too: Jenny Caroline, Jenny Laura, Jenny Eveline and Jenny Julia. It seemed that he could not think of any Tina in his life. Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, the leaders of Great Britain and the United States in the 1980s, resurrected a near religious faith in the capitalist system. According to Thatcher, there is no alternative (TINA) to capitalism, at least none that any sane person would take seriously. Marx felt that religion and the heavenly afterlife distracted people from the politics that could free them. As long as people believed in the TINA factor, the world could not solve the crises threatening human survival.
