ABSTRACT

First I’d like to thank Phyllis Palmer for inviting me to participate in the twenty-fifth anniversary activities of the Women’s Studies Program at George Washington University. Actually, I want to make more than a perfunctory thank you to Phyllis because it isn’t possible for me to talk about my intellectual experience in the Women’s Studies M.A. program, or how that experience carried over into my doctoral work, without talking about Phyllis Palmer. So, at the risk of embarrassing her terribly, let me describe my intellectual experiences in the Women’s Studies Program and how I carried that experience into my later work.
